Children's Library

We welcome you to visit the Smyrna Children's Library! Come on in and take a look around. We think you'll like what you see and you'll find something interesting to check out. The books in the library are geared for children from preschool-age up to the sixth grade although some books are suitable for children up to fourteen years of age. The library is a part of the Education Ministry.

The Children's Library was separated from the Adult Library in August of 1998 and initially possessed 35 books and eight videotapes. Since that time, the library has grown dramatically and now contains over 800 books and 100 videotapes/DVD’s.

The selection of videotapes includes complete sets of the Veggie Tales, Odyssey, McGee and Me, Animated Stories of the Old Testament and Animated Stories of the New Testament series. There are two or three copies of some of the more popular episodes in each series. In addition, there are individual videos from other sources.

We also have a wide variety of books such as bibles, bible stories, histories, Christian evidences, references and others that are available for check out. Board books are available for the younger children. For those in the lower elementary age group, the library has the Adam Raccoon, Franklin, Me Too, and Clifford book series. Upper elementary aged students will enjoy reading the Beverly Lewis Cul-de-sac Kids series and the Three Cousins Detective Club series by Elspeth Campbell Murphy. The Christy series books by Catherine Marshall are also available for eight to twelve year olds. There are books for all ages by Max Lucado and, of course, the Veggies Tales books by Phil Vischer are in stock.

It is important to us that our book and video selections conform to what the scriptures teach, so each book and video that is purchased is reviewed or screened to ensure that the messages taught are in accordance with the Word of God.

The library is staffed by volunteers and open for use before and after all church services and classes. It is also open three days a week for story time for the Smyrna Christian School, which is also a ministry of the Smyrna Church of Christ.

We encourage you to come in, look around and check us out. We hope to see you soon!

Children's Director

Most parents want to know that their children will grow up right and be good people. Because the first 10 years of life are typically the most critical in determining a person's moral direction, the Smyrna Church of Christ places great value on our children's ministry.

We are here to be a resource for you as you raise your child. We believe that children should be raised to know that they were created by God and have a meaningful purpose in life. It is not our desire to tell you how to raise your child or to simply provide activities for the "sake of doing something." Instead, we want to provide meaningful experiences that will help your child as he or she develops spiritually, socially, and mentally as they grow physically. It is our desire to serve God through serving families. We recognize that children are precious to God, and they are precious to us as well.

Please contact me if I may ever be of assistance to you or your child.
